Rating System

I use a weighted scale - ranging from 10 dimes to 100 dimes - to rate my releases.

It's simple and it tells you exactly how much I like one play versus another.

Obviously a 50 dime play is twice as strong as a 25 dime play; five times stronger than a 10 dime release.

Now the key is basing the size of your bet on the percentage of your total bankroll available to be wagered on any given day.

So let's say you've got $100 to bet on Sunday in the NFL and I've got a 40 Dime play on the side and a 10 Dime release on a total. That's 50 dimes of action on the table versus $100 to invest. That means you've got $2 per dime to play ($100 divided by 50 dimes). So, you would wager $80 on my side selection and $20 on the total.

If I had to sum up my strategy in one sentence it would be this: I'm always trying to spot bad numbers and the worse the number - as in the bigger discrepancy between what I think it should be and what it actually is in Vegas - the bigger the play.

Who is Eric Schroeder?

My Dad took a job in Henderson, Nevada - a suburb of Las Vegas that's a 15-minute drive from the Strip - when I was in 9th grade. I don't think I was in school two weeks before a friend asked if I wanted to spend a $1 playing a football pool.

I was hooked.

You grow up out here, immersed in the gambling culture of Vegas, and you can't help to become "addicted" in one form or another.

When you're in high school you watch a game and you know the spread. It's just the way it is.

Throughout high school and college I listened to sports radio and one tout after another bragging about their "big games" available "absolutely free" every weekend. Always thought I could do better so while I was in college I started selling my picks online at a small site with two other friends.

We didn't get rich (far from it), but for two years we had a ton of fun and made a nice little business for ourselves. One of the guys here at this site, Sean Michaels, saw our site and that led to an invitation to dinner to meet Steve Budin, which eventually got me an audition for Al DeMarco.

What did it take to get the job? Well, I for the first two weeks I had to send in my top play daily - with full analysis - by email by 11 AM Pacific. Then after that I was trained for a week on the site procedures and operations. Another week of loading my plays and doing a practice site every single day then followed.

So, 28 days later I finally got to make my debut and start my probationary period. But, trust me, it's worth it to have what I consider an opportunity of a lifetime to do something I absolutely love doing.

.............................

My free play for Saturday is on the Fresno State Bulldogs, which will destroy the New Mexico Lobos.

Fresno State opened conference play on the road two weeks back, defeating Nevada 21-3, then thwarted Wyoming 27-3 this past Saturday at home. The Bulldog defense kept Nevada out of the end zone - the first time doing so since Oct. 21 of last year - and then duplicated the feat against the Cowboys.

Fresno State has the 10th-best defense in the land, and has held opponents to a Mountain West-best 13.5 points per game, which also ranks No. 2 in the FBS.

This defense is tight, and creates opportunities for the offense, as it's produced 17 takeaways, the third-most in the country (based on all teams and all games).

On the other side of the ball, the combination of quarterback Marcus McMaryion and wideout KeeSean Johnson has been magic in producing the 34th best passing offense and 17th most pass efficient unit.

McMaryion's completion percentage (71.4) ranks 5th in the FBS while only one of the five in front of him have more attempts. Meanwhile, Johnson is a nation leader in consecutive games with at least one reception, checking in at 42, after hauling in five against Wyoming. He is also the nation’s active leader in career receptions with 218.

Fresno State, which has covered 23 of its last 27, will destroy the Lobos, rolling to a blowout win of at least 20 points.

A look at the NFL

Cleveland (+3) at TAMPA BAY

+ + + + + + + + + +

If you were to ask me which team has had it worse this season, or, looked worse, I'd most certainly tell you the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are worse than the Cleveland Browns.

The Bucs have looked inconsistent and been listless at times on offense. They don't show the fire they should all 60 minutes of a game, and that's something I've been impressed by when speaking of the Browns.

Baker Mayfield has been impressive, even in defeat. And he's vowed to respond after a brutal loss last Sunday to the San Diego Chargers.

The Browns are 2-3-1 but are in the thick of an early AFC North chase that may end up in Ohio. Cincinnati and Baltimore sit atop the division with 4-2 marks, while Pittsburgh (3-2-1) is in front of Cleveland. But something tells me we will see every team in first place by the season's end.

And the team with the most toughness will remain in the end. I think that team could very well be the Browns, who have two wins in a season for the first time since 2015.

I love Cleveland in this spot on the road, against the struggling Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay is 2-3 and sitting in third place in the NFC South. The Bucs handed first-place New Orleans its only loss, but have been brutal ever since. They've been outscored by 32 points, and have the second-worst defense in the league.

Tampa Bay has shown toughness in stopping the run, but ranks dead last in stopping the pass.

Enter Mayfield, who has shown poise and maturity, and can take full advantage of this secondary. I expect him to put up big numbers in a favorable climate and lead the Browns to a win.

I'll play the road team in this one.

And like with all football plays in this point-spread range, I want you active in buying the half point. Anytime there is an underdog catching between +2.5 and +4, you are to buy the half point up.
